human cost to individuals, families and the community of death, injury and destruction that can be caused by electricity.
(2) Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to establish a legislative framework for—

(b) preventing property from being destroyed or damaged by electricity.

6.    What is the role of Safe Work Australia?


Ø To raise awareness of work health and safety as a key issue in the community
Ø improve work health and safety, by understanding what influences Australian workplace cultures and then putting in place mechanisms to effect change
Ø harmonise work health and safety laws throughout Australia
Ø develop national work health and safety and workers’ compensation policy, and
Ø identify opportunities for improvement in workers’ compensation arrangements.





7.    What is the purpose of the “New National OHS Framework?

The purpose of the New National OHS Framework is to achieve greater national consistency across OHS jurisdictions' regulatory frameworks.


8.    What are the 5 national policies under the “National OHS Strategy 2002 – 2012”?
Ø National standards declared by the ASCC that will be the basis for jurisdictional regulations. National standards will be focused on safety and health requirements and will be specified as safety outcomes where possible.
Ø National codes of practice declared by the ASCC that will be the basis for jurisdictional approved codes of practice. The codes will provide more focused practical guidance on how to meet a safety outcome.
Ø A core elements document that will provide the foundation for the consistent development of jurisdictional Acts and regulations by specifying the objects, principles and common general duties of care of a harmonised legislative system. It will guide those who draft, administer or are subject to OHS legislation to understand the intent of a nationally consistent OHS regulatory framework.
Ø A handbook that will document the agreed approach of the ASCC to the governance of the National Framework. It will describe the key components and the processes for their development, implementation and review.

3.   OHSMS CREATION / REPORT


10.          You have just joined a new start-up games company called
THEFX.  The CEO has put you in charge of creating and maintaining OHS for the organisation.  Create and outline the OHS information you would provide to new employees working in your workplace. To create your documentation and supporting policies and procedures you will need to:
·       Create a logo for your company – to be used on all OHS forms and documents




·       Create and Explain a quality OHS management system (as per Diagram 1)

·       Our work will have a dedicated human resources department to create, implement, monitor
·       and revise policies as well as enforce and discipline worker.

·       Establish and maintain participative arrangements for the management of OHS.  As a minimum, you will need to:
o   Outline how the employees can help create the required OHS practices (e.g. meetings, brainstorming sessions)
o   Employees will have input on all OHS policies by having a meeting every month to
o   discuss possible changes and problems they feel they have with them.

o   Outline how the employees can maintain the required OHS practices (e.g. read signs)
o   Employees will be required to read and sign documentation that will bind them to the
o   polices and proper signage and warnings will be placed around the work place wear
o   appropriate. Employees participating in high risk activities will also be required to
o   undergo special training.
o
o   Outline how employees can resolve any issues regarding OHS (e.g. in the scenario that there was an OHS concern how would the employees deal with it?)
o   Employees can mention their issues at a monthly meeting or if they feel it is urgent
o   they can report it to their manager/HR
o   Create a flowchart which clearly shows how the OHSMS works
